Recruiting to structure and expand
Philippe Mangematin announces: "We are delighted to welcome Stephen to the position of CEO. Stephen will bring all his experience in the development of technology companies to this new phase in the industrialization of Seyna. Stephen's international profile will also be a great asset for our deployment outside our borders".
We would like to thank Philippe for his great contribution to Seyna's success, from its inception to the present day. We look forward to continuing to benefit from his experience in this new configuration", commented Seyna's Board of Directors. Philippe Mangematin will ensure the transition with Stephen Leguillon and the members of the team, and will remain a shareholder of the company.
The first stages of an ambitious vision
The arrival of Stephen Leguillon allows Seyna to structure itself to achieve its ambitious vision. The new CEO explains: "Seyna aims to be the infrastructure for creating, managing, and distributing insurance for the economy of tomorrow. Companies of all sizes, from startups to large enterprises, will be able to use Seyna's software, APIs, and services to create insurance, distribute them to their customers, and manage contracts.".
This unique positioning sets Seyna apart from other insurtechs that operate as intermediaries and distribute policies underwritten by insurers like Seyna.
"The first step was to obtain approval to operate as an insurer, which we obtained in November 2019 after two years of work. Seyna is the first independent property insurer created since 1983! This approval allows us to create insurance contracts and carry risk on our balance sheet," explains Jean Nicolini, co-founder of Seyna.
To finance this ambitious project, Seyna raised significant seed funding: €14 million subscribed by Global Founders Capital, Allianz France, Financière Saint James, and business angels in the sector.
Seyna announces today that it has internally built its proprietary technology for creating insurance products and risk monitoring ("core insurance system"), a tool agile enough to track an unlimited number of products in real-time with very specific features (cancellation, breakage and theft, deposit, etc.). Seyna is now tackling its API interconnection platform, allowing external partners to connect to its ecosystem intuitively and at low cost.
Thanks to this platform and its team, Seyna built 20 property insurance products in 2020, including unpaid rent insurance, animal health, ticket cancellation, and mechanical breakdown. Seyna does not sell insurance directly; the products are distributed under white-label agreements by distributors or brokers, whether they are historical market players or insurtechs venturing into new potential sectors.
This platform positioning has allowed Seyna to achieve a record turnover for a first year of insurtech in Europe.
